Telangana Police Tops Nation in Passport Services

In recognition of its outstanding performance in passport verification and citizen-centric service delivery, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, has conferred the prestigious “Institutional Performance Award for State Police” on the Telangana Police. The award acknowledges Telangana Police’s exemplary contribution in providing fast, transparent, and efficient passport verification services, making it a role model for other states across the country.


The award was presented by Dr. S. Jaishankar, Hon’ble Union Minister for External Affairs, to Sri C.V. Anand, IPS, Director General of Police, Telangana, during the Passport Seva Divas celebrations and Passport Officers’ Conference, held from June 17 to 19 at Sushma Swaraj Bhavan, New Delhi. Senior officials from the Ministry of External Affairs, Passport Offices, and police departments from various states participated in the event.

Expressing happiness over the recognition, DGP Sri C.V. Anand stated that police verification is a critical component of the passport issuance process and that the award is a testament to the commitment and professionalism demonstrated by Telangana Police in delivering prompt and quality services. He said that the achievement was made possible through a technology-driven verification system, effective coordination at the field level, and a citizen-centric approach adopted by the department.

Verification completed within 5–7 days

During the financial year 2025-26, Telangana Police has already processed and completed verification of 7.73 lakh applications out of  8,67,741 passport applications received and police verifed & Cleared 8,67,452 ( 99%) in average 5-7 days.

Earlier, during 2024-25, the department successfully completed verification of 8,06,684 passport applications, with an average turnaround time of less than seven days, earning national recognition for its record disposal rate.

Seventh National Recognition since 2014

It is to be mentioned that it was CV Anand , who was CP Cyberabad from 2013-16 , first developed and introduced the Verifast Software for passport verification in 2014 . It was adopted for the entire state in 2015 .Since 2015, Telangana Police has received seven national-level recognitions for excellence in passport verification services, reaffirming its position as one of the best-performing police organizations in the country. The department has consistently maintained high standards of efficiency and service delivery, emerging as a model for other states.

Technology-driven verification through ‘VeriFast’

To further enhance efficiency, Telangana Police developed and implemented “VeriFast,” an advanced technology-based passport verification system. Powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data-matching technologies, the system cross-verifies applicants’ details with CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network Systems), previous passport records, and other databases, enabling quick identification of discrepancies, duplicate applications, or criminal antecedents.

Compatible with both Android and iOS platforms, VeriFast not only assists police officers during the verification process but also provides timely updates to applicants. In the future, the system is expected to offer citizens the facility to schedule verification appointments at their convenience.

Telangana Police has been implementing several technology-driven reforms with a strong focus on public service and professional excellence, paving the way for more national and international recognitions in the years ahead.

DGP Sri C.V. Anand remarked that the award is a reflection of the dedication and service spirit of Telangana Police and would serve as a source of inspiration for the department to continue delivering better and faster services to citizens.
