Property crime decreased in first quarter

In a huge catch, property worth Rs 2.56 crore, including diamonds stolen from various places, has been recovered from six burglars by the Cyberabad police. Addressing a press conference at Gachibowli, Cyberabad Commissioner C.V. Anand said continuous efforts of the crime staff helped in the detection of 18 cases in various police stations.

“Revamping of the Central Crime Stations in Cyberabad has helped in detecting 18 cases. Property offences have declined by 34 percent compared to previous year,” he said. “The most important among them is the recovery of gold ornaments and diamonds worth Rs 2.24 crore that were stolen from a businessman’s house in Kondapur in 2014,” the commissioner said.

He said a driver working in the gated community where the complainant was living had been arrested in the case. Jalam Venkat Reddy alias Chitti Babu (24) of East Godavari district had burgled the house of a businessman Siva Prasad Reddy when he went to Africa. Learning that businessman was out of the country, the accused gained entry into the house and stole the booty.

Since then, he had hidden the gold and diamond jewelry in his house and his family members seldom used them nor sold them. On credible information, the crime team nabbed the accused and recovered the property, he said. In another case, two burglars, Abdul Jaffer (43) of Chandrayangutta and Malligotla Israel (34) of Shamshabad were arrested for committing 13 offenses in Chaitanyapuri and Petbasheerabad limits.

Gold ornaments weighing 102 tolas had been recovered from them, said the commissioner. He said the Bala Nagar CCS team had put efforts in nabbing three burglars Chepyala Gopal (26) of Quthbullapur, Golla Krishna (29) auto driver from Quthbullapur and Golla Shankar alias Kalyan (24) of Kompally, who were involved in four burglaries at Petbasheerabad and recovered 38 tolas of gold.

The commissioner said preventive measures taken by the police reduced the occurrence of property offenses in Cyberabad. “There is 34 percent decrease in property offenses. We cannot assure that it will remain the same, as they are seasonal. But, we are making good efforts to bring positive change as a team,” said Anand while appreciating the efforts of the staff.
