Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Anand formally launched the campaign, which will involve ‘enactment, enforcement and enablement’ of motor insurance.
Road accidents are human tragedy involving tremendous human suffering in terms of premature deaths, injuries and loss of productivity. Several studies have shown that a number of vehicles plying nation-wide on the road are uninsured. This poses a grave danger to the society as a whole and tremendous agony for the accident victims in particular to receive adequate compensation. The motor third party insurance is compulsory under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and it is the responsibility of all the stakeholders to ensure compliance of the statutory requirement in the interest of all the road users.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner C.V.Anand with the officials of IRDA and IIB.
The Cyberabad Police Comissionerate in collaboration with the IIB, has identified uninsured vehicles within Cyberabad Metropolitan Police jurisdiction. Starting May 1st 2015, In Cyberabad, there will be a 15 day long "Motor Vehicles Insurance Awareness Campaign" organized by the local insurers wherein the owners of vehicles would be sensitised about the benefits of motor insurance  besides making special arrangements to facilitate spot purchase of insurance through approximately 100 kiosks set up all across the Cyberabad region. However, during the campaign and after the campaign, the vehicle owners would have the option to buy insurance through   branch office of any general insurance company as well as through a link on the Cyberabad Traffic Police website.

Cyberabad has been chosen as the first place for launch in view of the proactive approach and high technology adoption of the police here. This initiative is expected to be a role model for the rest of the country, where the menace of uninsured driving is still at large. IIB is also expected to initiate such campaigns in Delhi, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

C.V.Anand reviews functioning of SHE teams

Cyberabad Police Commissioner C.V.Anand with the SHE team members.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner C.V.Anand reviewed the functioning of SHE Teams in Cyberabad and commended them for their efforts in controlling/nabbing eve teasers which has increased safety of women in the entire Cyberabad.  All the members of the SHE Teams were given rewards and certificates.

Cyberabad SHE TEAMS have introduced a novel way to understand the mind of the eveteasers during counseling to instil a social responsibility to respect and protect women. Ever since the teams started operating in hotspots, over 250 eve-teasers have been apprehended. In the last one week itself a total of 27 cases were booked on 36 persons from various age groups.

During the routine review, Mr.Anand instructed the SHE TEAMS in-charge DCP Malkajgiri to streamline the counseling being held in the Crimes Against Women (CAW) Cell every Saturday, to make it more effective. As part of this endeavour, a questionnaire is being given to the offenders before the commencement of counseling. The questionnaire consists of 15 questions ranging from the particulars of the person to the factors which prompt him to engage in such act of violation against women. It also tests the attitude and psyche of the offenders towards women.

The responses given by these offenders are given to the counselors and the family members are requested to pay attention to this aspect, as most of the responses have something to do with the family background. Over 80% of the offenders have stated that they didn’t feel that it was wrong to tease/stalk /trouble a woman against her consent and thought it was very much acceptable in our society. A majority of them cited nuclear families and less intervention of parents as the cause, to a question on why they have resorted to such activity. Private, independent counsellors are being requested to conduct counseling to them.

The teams have gone all out to reach out to as many  people as possible to create awareness on women safety in co-ordination with the women’s forum of the Society for Security Council (SCSC). These sessions largely focus on the working of SHE TEAMS, tips on self defense techniques, exposure to special legislations/legal remedies etc.,

The month of March was dedicated to the theme of “Empowering and protecting women” and a series of events were organized by the teams to promote the cause.

  • The teams collaborated with WOMANATHON 2015, a 10K run based on the theme of “Run For Her” on March 8th which was flagged-off by CP Cyberabad Mr.C.V.Anand IPS.

  • The teams participated in the Times Of India “HAPPY STREETS” event, and addressed a huge gathering on “Cyberabad Police Initiatives on Women Safety”.

  • Through SCSC Women’s Forum a “Women’s Raahgiri” event was organized to create awareness on Equal Streets & Equal Rights.
