HCP auctions 601 abandoned vehicles

The HCP Chief CV Anand has directed all his officers to clear the L & O and Traffic police stations, Goshamahal stadium and several other offices where of all the abandoned and case vehicles are lying and occupying precious space and also spoiling the look of the police stations etc .

In a first attempt at this , As many as 601 seized and abandoned vehicles have gone up for public auction conducted by Hyderabad City Police at Goshamahal police grounds. On Tuesday, Hyderabad Police Commissioner inaugurated the 13th phase public auction.

During the auction, CP CV Anand addressed the bidders(who are mostly from automobile field) and requested them to bid in a fair manner and appealed to them to be very vigilant on illicit drug trafficking and usage.
About 550 bidders from AP & TS states attended the event and a total of 601 vehicles were auctioned wherein 568 abandoned/unclaimed vehicles (545 two wheelers, 21 three wheelers and 2 four wheeler vehicles) of Hyderabad City were auctioned for Rs.44,28,000/- and the road worthy (33) vehicles (32 two wheelers & 1 four wheeler vehicle) were auctioned for Rs. 7,46,000. The total amount received in the auction out of the sale of 600 vehicles is Rs 51,74,000./-.This will be deposited in the Govt Treasury .
Despite notifying owners through press releases, most of them were reluctant to collect their vehicles. Some of the unclaimed vehicles condition have deteriorated to such an extent that they can only be sold to scrap dealers.
In normal circumstances, city police clears the seized vehicles out of the lot through auctions. But accomodating too many vehicles in the lot is a challenge that has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic which forced to put a pause on regular auctions.
Next auction of HCP plans to auction 5000 vehicles at least after thorough exercise.
