Anand at the age of 22 !
Mr.CV Anand cleared civil services exam in his first attempt and got selected to IPS by securing 147th rank. He had a brilliant academic record with a  gold medal in  MA Economics. Mr.Anand is a talented Cricketer and played at Under-19, Under-22 levels. He was part of the Under-19 Indian cricket team that toured England. He represented Osmania University  in inter university tournaments.

What are the factors that motivated you to join civil services?
There is a good scope to serve people and recognition in society.Every step you take and every action you make in this service accepts a great deal of wallop on the citizenry. My father is an IFS officer and that also inspired me to join civil services. He served at various places.

I am from a remote village. My mother took special care to educate children and we moved to Hyderabad. She supported us a lot.

How did you prepare for the exam?
I used to cover all subjects by allocating 11 to 12 hrs  of time per day.I had prepared brief notes on Anthropology. For current affairs, I had read papers and magazines. It is essential to maintain information at one place pertaining to any single aspect. I paired the additional material in the related book.

How did you remember the content.Any techniques?
I had prepared 150 formulas for Anthropology and included 10 points in each. For synthetic theory of evolution chapter in Anthropology, I had prepared a 8 letter formula with 5 main points and 3 add-on points. CRIMN+MCH. First 5 letters is close to the word "crime" and next set of 3 letters indicates Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad. Each letter is mapped to one aspect of the topic.

How was your interview?
It didn't happen the way I expected.I was the last person interviewed in the morning session. Members in the panel were seem to be tired. They finished interview in 20 minutes. Before interview I thought I could get a rank below 100.

What did they ask you in interview?
What is Anthropology? Who were the famous Anthropologists? How does Anthropology helps in knowing the lives of Tribals? They questioned me about Chota Nagpur Tribals.
Randomly questioned on various topics viz. public Administration, corruption, Lokpal, Right to work, Exit polls etc.,

Being a gold medalist in Economics, why did you prefer Public Administration and Anthropology as optional subjects?
One can get coaching material for Public Administration very easily and gain good scores in the exam. Economics subject is so vast and more chances to face high standard questions. So I have selected Anthropology as the syllabus is limited  and  we can also expect straight questions.

What do you suggest for the aspirants?
There is no need to get panic about the exam. Prepare a plan and work hard.Interact with the professors in study circles.
