High-Level Review Meeting at Dr. MCHRD on upcoming Mahankali Bonalu Festival Arrangements

A high-level review meeting on the arrangements for the upcoming Mahankali Bonalu festivities was held today at the Dr. Marri Channa Reddy Human Resource Development Institute, Jubilee Hills. The meeting was attended by Minister for Transport and BC Welfare Sri Ponnam Prabhakar, Minister Janab Azharuddin, Special Secretary, Endowments Department Smt. Shailaja Ramaiyer, Director General of Police Sri C.V. Anand, public representatives, and senior officials from various departments.

Addressing the meeting  since Bonalu was declared a State Festival in 2014, the celebrations have been conducted with increasing grandeur every year, attracting a large number of devotees not only from Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana but also from neighboring states.

Emphasizing that devotees' safety is of paramount importance directed all departments to take proactive measures to prevent overcrowding and stampedes in congested areas. He pointed out that heavy pilgrim movement is expected even during early morning and late-night hours, requiring all agencies to remain vigilant throughout the festivities. the celebrations, which begin with the Golconda Bonalu, continue at major temples including Balkampet Yellamma Temple and Ujjaini Mahankali Temple. Considering the steady increase in devotees visiting Balkampet in recent years, special arrangements and additional precautions would be taken with regard to the temple premises and entry and exit routes.

All officers stressed that close coordination among the Police Department, Endowments Department, Revenue Department, Roads and Buildings Department and other concerned agencies is essential for the smooth conduct of the festival. Comprehensive action plans covering crowd management, queue systems, barricading, traffic regulation and emergency response mechanisms are being prepared.

Sri C.V. Anand stated that the Telangana Police are fully prepared to provide adequate security arrangements for Bonalu celebrations across the State. Based on the requirements received from various districts, sufficient police forces would be deployed. Special attention would be paid to the Ujjaini Mahankali celebrations falling under the jurisdiction of the newly formed Malkajgiri Commissionerate.

The DGP further observed that traffic management during the Bonalu month is as important as maintaining law and order. Given the heavy vehicular movement in Hyderabad even on normal days, special traffic management plans would be implemented during the festivities. Concerned DCPs and Traffic officials would work in close coordination, taking into account the schedule of major celebrations every week.

He assured that based on the experience gained over the years, arrangements would be further strengthened to ensure that the Bonalu festivities are conducted peacefully, safely and without inconvenience to devotees through coordinated efforts by all departments.
