Director General of Police (DGP), Telangana, Shri C.V. Anand, IPS, conducted a comprehensive review meeting with district police officers at the Nirmal District Police Office on Wednesday as part of his district visit. The meeting focused on law and order maintenance, crime prevention, cybercrime control, anti-drug initiatives, traffic management, and the delivery of citizen-centric police services.
During the meeting, Nirmal District Superintendent of Police Dr. G. Janaki Sharmila, IPS, presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the district’s crime scenario, policing strategies, and special initiatives being implemented by the district police. She informed the DGP that cognizable crimes in the district had registered a decline of approximately 4.7 percent compared to the previous year. While 1,155 cases were registered during the corresponding period in 2025, only 896 cases were reported from January to April 2026. She further highlighted that communal disturbances in the Bhainsa area had been effectively controlled and significantly reduced.
The SP also reported a marginal decline of around 2.2 percent in crimes against women. However, cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act showed an increase, with 32 cases recorded, reflecting a rise of nearly 10 percent. She further informed that cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been increasing, indicating the need for continued enforcement and awareness measures against drug abuse.
DGP Shri C.V. Anand highly appreciated the innovative “Police Akka” programme being implemented in Nirmal district. He congratulated the district police personnel for the initiative receiving the prestigious national-level SKOCH Award. He also emphasized the need to encourage and empower women police personnel by assigning them greater responsibilities and enhancing their participation in law and order duties. The SP explained that the reduction in crime was largely due to proactive policing measures, including regular cordon-and-search operations, opening and monitoring rowdy sheets and suspect sheets, and maintaining continuous surveillance on habitual offenders and individuals with criminal tendencies.
Addressing the officers, the DGP stated that cybercrime and drug abuse have emerged as two of the most serious challenges facing society today. He observed that cybercrimes cause significant financial losses to citizens and adversely affect the economy, while drug addiction is destroying the future of many young people. He directed police officers to intensify efforts against narcotics, strengthen enforcement measures, and conduct extensive public awareness campaigns to curb the menace.
The DGP further instructed officers to promptly receive and address every complaint submitted by citizens and ensure speedy resolution of grievances. He emphasized that police services should be delivered in a manner that enhances public trust and confidence, urging officers to work with dedication and professionalism so that people remember the police as a responsive and service-oriented institution.
