 There was a five-hour-long meeting of the Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri Revanth Reddy with all IPS officers of the rank of Inspector General, Additional Director General and Director General working in various departments across the State.

Following the opening remarks by Chief Secretary Sri Ramakrishna Rao, who emphasized the importance of the meeting, DGP Sri CV Anand spoke about the strong brand image of the Telangana Police and the need to strengthen it further. He highlighted how safety and security contribute directly to economic growth and development. Referring to the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s repeated emphasis on the subject, he stated that the Police Department must transition from its traditional anti-Maoist policing orientation and adapt to emerging challenges through the effective use of Artificial Intelligence and technology to help achieve the State’s Vision 2047 objectives.



Sri CV Anand outlined the key focus areas for the Police Department in the coming years:

  1. Narcotics control

  2. Cybercrime prevention and investigation

  3. Traffic Management and Road Safety, for which a new bureau, TTMARS (Telangana Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau), is being created

  4. Creation of a Vigilance and Enforcement Directorate (VED) to prevent revenue losses in sectors such as mining, civil supplies, GST and excise

  5. Establishment of a dedicated Food Adulteration Wing to combat food adulteration, which is contributing to increasing cancer cases

  6. Women’s safety

  7. Disaster management

  8. Prevention and management of communal issues

  9. General law and order, crime prevention and crime detection

  10. Downsizing and redesigning of specialized units such as Greyhounds, OCTOPUS, SIB and ISW

  11. Creation of a Technology Wing in the DGP Office to harness the latest technological advancements for policing

The DGP also spoke about the need to improve discipline and integrity within the department, address gaps in protocol and official courtesies, and strengthen institutional systems. He expressed concern over the weakening of the DGP Office due to the creation of multiple Heads of Department and stressed the need to restore proper protocols and reporting mechanisms. He emphasized the revival of basic policing practices such as field visits and regular crime review meetings, the need to empower Superintendents and Commissioners of Police, the posting of DIG-rank officers to mentor and guide Unit Officers, and the importance of curbing corrupt practices.

Sri CV Anand also requested the Government to clear certain pending bills, fill vacant posts, and address long-pending seniority disputes from the rank of Sub-Inspector to Deputy Superintendent of Police. He assured the Hon’ble Chief Minister that the Telangana Police would work collectively and diligently to bring further recognition and goodwill to the Government through professional and people-centric policing.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister, in his address, spoke at length about the importance of maintaining hierarchy and discipline from Home Guard to DGP level, enhancing coordination and cooperation within the force, reviving the fundamentals of policing while integrating modern technology, and conducting comprehensive audits of manpower, vehicles and weapons. He also emphasized the need to introduce drone-based policing, strengthen social media monitoring capabilities, improve coordination with other departments at the district level, revive and effectively utilize CCTV infrastructure, maximize the use of Integrated Command and Control Centres (iCCC), and strengthen police stations as the foundation of effective policing.

All Heads of Department subsequently made brief presentations on the activities of their respective departments and outlined their future plans.

The meeting was intense, comprehensive and highly significant, providing an important platform for senior IPS officers to discuss key challenges, clarify issues relating to coordination, responsibility and accountability, and align themselves with the Government’s vision for the future of policing in Telangana.
