Today (July 21, 2025), Sri C.V. Anand, IPS, DG, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, along with his wife Smt. Lalitha Anand, visited the Sri Akkana Madanna Temple and flagged off the Ghattam procession. On this occasion, the Commissioner expressed his immense happiness to participate in the Ghattam procession and extended his gratitude and best wishes to the temple management and the organizers of the Ghattam procession.
The Commissioner highlighted the 350 -year history of the Sri Akkana Madanna Temple, noting that during the Qutub shahi rule in 1675, pujas were performed here for 10 years. After the death of Akkanna and Madanna , the pujas were halted. However, after India gained independence, the temple was reconstructed, and pujas and festivals resumed. The Goddess Mahankali was prayed to in history to protect everyone from plague , diseases and floods came and she always protected everyone . He also mentioned that the Bonalu festival has been celebrated grandly for the past month, with Hon'ble Ministers Sri Ponnam Prabhakar and Smt. Konda Surekha taking special interest and providing all necessary support to organize it on an unprecedented scale this year.
Regarding security arrangements, the Police Commissioner explained that robust police security has been put in place at the temple and along the Ghattam procession route to prevent stampedes. He also stated that arrangements have been made in coordination with all departments to ensure devotees do not face any inconvenience. He further noted that She Teams and Crime Teams have been deployed to prevent eve-teasing, pickpocketing, and chain snatching. The Commissioner thanked all Hyderabad officials for performing their duties to ensure the Bonalu festival was conducted peacefully.
The Ghattam procession starts from Akkana Madanna Temple in Haribowli and proceeds via Gowliguda, Lal Darwaza, and Shah Ali Banda, concluding at Nayapul.
The event was attended by Sri Vikram Singh Mann, IPS (Additional CP, Law and Order), Sri D. Joel Davis, IPS (Joint CP Traffic), Smt. K. Apoorva Rao, IPS (DCP Special Branch), Smt. Sneha Mehra, IPS (DCP South Zone), Smt. Rakshitha Krishna Murthy, IPS (DCP CAR Headquarters), Sri Venkateswarlu, IPS (DCP Traffic), and other officials.
