Hyderabad Police rejigs jurisdiction

The Hyderabad City Police was reorganised after a gap of 35 years vide                 G.O.Ms.32, Home Legal Dept Dt.30.04.2023. The major highlights of that G.O. was the creation of 2 additional L&O Zones – South East + South West, 11 new L&O Divisions, 1 Additional Traffic Zone (Traffic 3), 11 more L&O police stations (total 71), 13 more Traffic Police Stations (Total 31), a Women Safety Wing with                7 Women Police Stations in 7 Zones, separate Cyber Crime Unit, IT Wing, Narcotics Wing. An extra strength of 1200 was sanctioned for these above changes.

Over the past 2 years, a few complaints have been received from the public regarding minor jurisdictional issues, inconvenience in travelling to their new police stations etc. Officers of the department have also given feedback about some issues, like confusion in Traffic and L&O police in some areas over jurisdictions, the need to strengthen Cyber Crime Wing more, weakening of cat.C L&O Police Stations etc.

In light of this, detailed consultations have been held with all stakeholders – public, public representatives, HCP officers of all ranks - and the following modifications in the G.O.Ms. 32, Home Legal Dept  Dt.30.04.2023 were proposed to Govt., with only internal readjustment and reallotment of the entire HCP sanctioned strength of 17,020, without a single paisa financial burden to the Government. The TG Government has approved the proposed readjustments vide G.O.No.57, Home Legal Dept Dt. 24.04.2025. It is expected that these changes will stand the Hyderabad City Police in good stead for the next decade.

Major Changes Introduced:

1. Creation of New L&O  Police Station:

A new L&O Police Station - Tolichowki Police Station - has been established, marking the 72nd L&O Police Station under Hyderabad City Police. Select areas previously falling under the jurisdictions of Filmnagar PS, Mehdipatnam PS (formerly Humayun Nagar PS), and Golconda PS have now been brought under the newly established Tolichowki Police Station.

2. Renaming of Divisions and Police Stations with popular names :

To ensure better public identification   1 L&O division and 3 L&O police stations have been renamed to reflect their popular local references:

1. Golconda Division is now Tolichowki Division

2. Secretariat PS renamed as Lake PS

3. Humayun Nagar PS renamed as Mehdipatnam PS

4. Shahinayathgunj PS renamed as Goshamahal PS

3. Restructuring and Renaming of traffic police stations to align their jurisdictions and names with the L&O Division. (as has been the historic practice)

The 3 existing Traffic Police Stations — Marredpally, Bowenpally, and Narayanguda — have been discontinued to bring the Traffic Police stations jurisdictions in accordance with the 28 L&O divisions. The existing                      Tr. Nampally PS, Tr. Amberpet PS, Tr. Langer House PS, Tr. Bhahadurpura PS, Tr. Nallakunta PSs are re-named as Tr. Gandhi Nagar PS, Tr. Osmania University PS, Tr. Kulsumpura PS, Tr. Chatrinaka PS and Tr. Saidabad PS respectively and  they will function within the areas of jurisdiction of respective Traffic Police Stations.

4. Creation of Specialized Units

Women Safety Wing (WSW) has been strengthened through the creation of dedicated units: Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) – total staff 8 to be headed by 1 Inspector, Juvenile Bureau Unit – total staff 7 to be headed by 1 Inspector.

5. Zonal Cyber Crime Cells (ZCCs) have been established in each L&O Zone, staffed with 1 Sub-Inspector and 5 Police Constables per zone.

6. Strengthening of both L&O and Traffic wings sanctioned strengths to meet present and future policing needs with addition of 327 and 321 extra staff and officers.

Updated jurisdiction maps, contact details, and police station locations will soon be made available on the official website of Hyderabad City Police.

A coordination meeting was held today with officers from all departments on the occasion of the Sri Ram Navami Shobha Yatra at Draupadi Garden in Sitaram Bagh. The meeting was presided over by Sri. CV Anand IPS, DG Commissioner of Police Hyderabad.

Speaking on the occasion, Sri. CV Anand IPS, DG Commissioner of Police Hyderabad, said that the Sri Ram Navami Shobha Yatra started in 2010 and has gained fame across the country in a short time. The Sri Ram Navami Shobha Yatra proceeds from Sitaram Bagh to Hanuman Gymnasium. On behalf of the Hyderabad City Police, we are making significant security arrangements from beginning to end to prevent any untoward incidents. The people and the organizers of the festival should cooperate with the police for the peaceful conduct of the Shobha Yatra. He requested that arrangements be made to start the Shobha Yatra by 1 PM.

Keeping in mind past experiences, and considering that the Shobha Yatra routes are quite narrow, making it difficult for large vehicles to pass, the festival committee members were asked to arrange a trial run with the vehicles in advance. Since the police department is monitoring security with the help of drones, it was suggested that anyone wishing to use drones should obtain permission from the local police in advance. Otherwise, it will cause problems for both the Shobha Yatra organizers and the police. It has been learned that people are experiencing heart problems and hearing issues due to the use of DJ sound systems. Therefore, for the welfare of everyone, using a regular sound system instead of a DJ is advisable. He asked the organizers to ensure that there are no songs or speeches that denigrate other communities during the Shobha Yatra.

A joint control room will be set up in the ICCC building to monitor the Shobha Yatra. He asked all government departments to take steps to ensure that the Shobha Yatra ends successfully without any problems. He said that special security arrangements will be made at all major intersections and problematic areas along the Shobha Yatra route, along with continuous monitoring through CCTV cameras. He asked the organizers and people to follow the rules during the Shobha Yatra and celebrate the festival with devotion. The organizers of the Shobha Yatra should take appropriate precautions regarding the height of the idols.

All departments of the Hyderabad City Police and the Special Police are preparing to provide security with 20,000 police personnel for the Sri Rama Navami Shobha Yatra. We have established full-scale surveillance on the movements of criminals with the She Team and CCS police. He suggested that Hyderabad Zonal Police Officers and other departmental officers form WhatsApp groups with their staff to facilitate information sharing. He said that preventive measures have been taken to prevent any untoward incident in Hyderabad city.

GHMC Additional Commissioner said that all arrangements are being made for the Sri Ram Navami Shobha Yatra. Orders have been issued to all officials for road repairs, street lights, and other facilities, and instructions have been given to our officials to ensure that devotees do not face any inconvenience.
