Cops held meeting with film fraternity

The Hyderabad City Police, in the wake of unravelling one of the largest film piracy rackets in recent times, convened a high-level meeting with the members of Telugu film fraternity including heroes, producers, exhibitors, digital distribution partners to brief them on the findings, explain how the offences were being committed, and the precautions to be taken.

During the meeting, officers detailed the two primary modes of piracy exposed in the recent investigation. In the first, offenders discreetly recorded movies inside theatres using mobile devices. In the second, cybercriminals hacked digital distribution systems well before a film’s release, illegally accessing and copying high-value original studio content.

CP Anand said that the probe identified a number of piracy portals included TamilMV, Tail Blasters and Movierulz and showed how these sites are monetized or promoted by sponsors such as online gaming and betting operators. Pirated files are further circulated through torrent websites, Telegram channels and illegal streaming platforms. Visitor data on these sites is often harvested and used to commit additional cybercrimes, including fraud, digital arrests etc.,

The Police Commissioner set out practical precautions for each stakeholder and emphasized the importance of robust cyber-security practices across all stakeholders, including regular audits of digital delivery platforms, strict access controls, and swift reporting of suspicious activity. Theatre owners were urged to strengthen on-ground vigilance, restrict the use of recording devices, and adopt advanced surveillance to deter in-hall piracy attempts. Production units were told to maintain a strict chain of custody for content and robust forensics, water markings.

The film industry representatives welcomed the initiative and assured their full cooperation. Mr.Chiranjeevi, Mr.Venkatesh, Mr.Nagarjuna, Mr.Nani, Telangana Film Development Corporation chairman Mr. V. Venkata Ramana Reddy(Dil Raju) and other film fraternity members attended the meeting.

HYDERABAD CYBER CRIME POLICE BUST THE MAJOR NETWORK OF MOVIE PIRACY RING AND ARREST FIVE KEY ACCUSED

HYDERABAD CYBER CRIME POLICE BUST THE MAJOR NETWORK OF MOVIE PIRACY RING AND ARREST FIVE KEY ACCUSED

Piracy significantly impacts the Indian film industry, causing substantial financial losses and hindering its growth. In 2023, the Indian entertainment industry suffered an estimated ₹22,400 Crore loss due to piracy. This includes losses due to pirated content from both the movie theaters and the OTТ platforms.

WHY PIRACY:

People want to watch the content immediately after it is released

Usually there is a window of 6-8 weeks for the OTT release and people won’t wait for that long

Producers spend years creating a movie, hiring actors, renting equipment, and promoting the film by putting their heart and soul with their hard eared money. Before they could even fully market or monetize, pirated films are released and eat into their rightful revenues.

Hundreds and thousands of people like the daily wage workers, junior artists, technicians, etc. and in fact the entire film industry is affected.

There is a misconception that pirated content is free. It is a fallacy. There is nothing free in the world. The ‘free’ pirated content comes with a huge cost. Piracy is used as bait, as a trap to steal people’s identities, to infringe on data privacy, to spread malware, which will then lead to online fraud, financial scams and other Cyber Crimes.

The Cyber Crime Police of Hyderabad has successfully dismantled the major movie piracy racket by arresting five (5) key individuals involved in the illegal distribution of copyrighted films and issuing notices to 5 individuals for aiding and abetting the fraud. These arrests are the sequel of comprehensive investigation into the piracy of several new Telugu films including "HIT: The Third Case", "#Single", “Kuberaa” and “Hari Hara Veera Mallu” which have been uploaded onto the illegal websites: 1TamilBlasters, 5MoviezRulz, and 1TamilMV

CASE DETAILS AND INVESTIGATION :

On 05.06.2025 at 1200 hours, a complaint was filed by Sri Yarra Manindra Babu, representing the Anti-Video Piracy Cell of the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC), Hyderabad. He reported that the Telugu film "#Single" (released on May 9, 2025), Hit the third case (released on 1st May 2025) has been pirated and illegally circulated online on the very first day of the movie release. The pirated HD versions were traced to popular piracy platforms like 1TamilBlasters, 5MoviezRulz, and 1TamilMV. The preliminary findings of forensic watermarking pointed towards leakage from the theatre.

On the above complaint, a case under Cr.No. 1042/2025 under Sections 66 (C) and 66 (E) IT Act, Sec. 318 (4) r/w 3 (5), 338 BNS, Sec. 63 and 65 of the Copyright Act, Sec. 6-AA, 6AB and 7(1A) of Cinematograph Act, 1952 (2008) has been registered and investigated by the Cyber Crime P.S.

Further, another case under Cr. No 1292/2025 under Sections 66 (C) and 66 (E) IT Act, Sec. 318 (4) r/w 3 (5), 338 BNS, Sec. 63 and 65 of the Copyright Act, Sec. 6-AA, 6AB and 7(1A) of Cinematograph Act, 1952 (2008) was also registered and investigated by the Cyber crime P.S, based on the complaint of the Anti-Video Piracy Cell of the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC), who alleged that the Telugu film "Kubera" was also pirated and uploaded onto the websites like 1TamilBlasters  on the same day of the release of the movie.

Hon'ble Governor Inaugurates Hyderabad’s First Traffic Summit 2025

The First Traffic Summit 2025, organised by the Hyderabad City Security Council (HCSC) in collaboration with the Hyderabad Traffic Police, was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Governor of Telangana, Shri Jishnu Dev Varma.

In his address, the Governor lauded Hyderabad’s rapid strides in connectivity and urban growth but noted that traffic management continues to pose one of the city’s greatest challenges. He emphasised the importance of comprehensive planning and collective effort, underlining that “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and, most importantly, Sabka Prayas” must guide the approach to traffic reforms. Stressing the value of discipline on roads, he reminded that it is central to saving lives and improving quality of life for all citizens.

Calling traffic a daily concern for every household, the Governor appreciated the initiative of bringing stakeholders together under one platform and described the HCSC–Hyderabad Traffic Police model as one that could be replicated across the country. He also commended the sponsors for supporting the initiative.

The two-day summit, themed Innovate – Implement – Improve, is designed to generate actionable ideas through panel discussions and collective brainstorming. During the inaugural session, HCSC representatives highlighted the forum’s role as a bridge between public, private, and government sectors in enhancing urban safety and security. They also pointed to the mounting challenges posed by rapid urbanisation, noting that approximately 1,500 new vehicles are being added each day to the existing 92 lakh registered in the three commissionerates of Greater Hyderabad.

Despite this surge, officials noted that Hyderabad continues to maintain one of the best average traffic speeds among Indian metros—23.5 km/h—thanks to measures such as Operation ROPE, reverse traffic engineering, VIP convoy management, and the sustained fieldwork of the traffic police.

Government efforts to expand road and metro infrastructure were acknowledged, but it was also observed that traffic volumes have consistently outpaced upgrades. In the first panel discussion, focused on last-mile connectivity, the need for higher levels of interdepartmental coordination—between HMDA, GHMC, RTA, RTC, water and electricity utilities, and the traffic police—was underscored. Officials stressed that efficient last-mile solutions would be critical for maximising the Metro’s capacity and easing congestion across the city.

CP briefs media Ganesh immersion

Today Sri C.V. Anand, IPS, DG, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, stated that the process of Ganesh idol immersion is continuing peacefully without any untoward incidents. Speaking to the media this evening (September 6, 2025), he explained the progress of the immersion process and the measures taken by the police.

Khairatabad Maha Ganapathi immersion was completed at 1:05 PM, and Balapur Ganapathi immersion was completed at 6:11 PM. So far, the immersion of more than 650 idols has been completed.

Around 4,500 idols still need to be immersed in the city. An aerial survey revealed that the idols coming from the South Zone (Chhatrinaka, Chandrayangutta, Rachakonda) and Cyberabad side are still on the roads.

Measures are being taken to speed up the immersion by continuing the idol procession in four lanes.

This time, technology has been extensively used for the Ganesh immersion. Information about the idols was uploaded online, and the Ganesh idols were geo-tagged. This has made the process easier.

A special option for Ganesh immersion has been introduced in the TG COP app. This allows inspectors to track the movement of idols within their jurisdiction.

Based on the information provided by the mandap organizers, vehicles are being allowed after ensuring there are no DJs, bands, etc.

Due to the measures taken to prevent electrical accidents, 10% of the CCTV camera connections were disconnected, of which up to 3% were repaired for the immersion. Drones (9) and high-rise cameras (35) are being used for surveillance.

Pushing parties have been arranged to speed up the immersion. 40 cranes are available at Hussain Sagar for immersion..

The immersion process is being completed in coordination with GHMC and other departments. The mandap organizers are cooperating with the police and following their instructions. The Commissioner expressed hope that the immersion of idols would be completed by 8 AM tomorrow morning and that traffic would be relaxed as needed tomorrow.
