Annual report - 2024

 The number of registered cases in Hyderabad rose from 25,488 in 2023 to 35,944 in 2024. The figures were released during this year’s annual round-up meeting by Police Commissioner C.V. Anand at the Integrated Command Control Centre at Banjara Hills on Sunday.

Bodily crimes witnessed a steep rise of 65.74%, increasing from 5,098 cases in 2023 to 8,447 in 2024. Grave bodily crimes also surged from 563 cases in 2023 to 700 in 2024. Property crimes followed an upward trend, jumping from 3,551 cases in 2023 to 5,328 in 2024.

Crimes against women rose by 2.39%, from 2,424 cases in 2023 to 2,482 in 2024, while crimes against children saw a concerning increase of 21.02%, growing from 371 cases in 2023 to 449 in 2024. Cases involving Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes communities recorded a marginal rise of 1.74%, from 172 cases in 2023 to 175 in 2024.

City police commissioner C.V. Anand said that the peaceful conduct of Parliament elections, alongside major events, festivities and religious processions is a testament to meticulous planning, seamless execution and exemplary coordination. “Special emphasis has been placed on strengthening night policing and maintaining vigil over all forms of criminal activity during night hours. Furthermore, the induction of 1,127 new police constables into the force augurs well for the city’s security, traffic management and the overall efficiency of the Hyderabad City Police,” he said.

Traffic violations

Hyderabad recorded 2,745 road accidents in 2024 as opposed to 2,548 last year. Despite enhanced safety measures, the city saw over 227 deaths in 76 fatal accidents in 2024. During the drunk and drive checks in 2024, 8,40,084 people were checked, 52,080 cases were booked and 46,468 chargesheets were filed. In 2023, 3,49,917 people were checked, 43,940 cases were booked and 45,327 chargesheets were filed.

In 2023, 19,29,698 violations were recorded for riding without a helmet, which jumped to 22,74,662 in 2024. In 2023, 1,878 people were booked for minor driving, which increased to 2,976 in 2024.

“With Hyderabad’s vehicle population now exceeding 8.8 million, traffic violations remain a pressing issue. Initiatives like ‘Operation Rope’ helped remove 200 footpath encroachments, easing congestion. However, road accidents and life-endangering violations remain critical challenges. Enhanced monitoring, public education campaigns and AI-driven traffic systems have been prioritised for 2025,” said the commissioner.

Cyber crimes

A total of 4,042 cases of cybercrime were reported, resulting in financial losses amounting to ₹296.32 crore. Investment fraud emerged as the most significant category, with 926 cases leading to losses of ₹60.02 crore. Trading fraud followed closely behind with 563 cases, resulting in losses amounting to ₹136.66 crore. OTP fraud accounted for 361 cases, costing victims ₹10.20 crore, while customs fraud saw 312 cases leading to financial damages of ₹61.29 crore. Online fraud was responsible for 278 cases, totalling ₹2.28 crore in losses.

The Hyderabad Police have made strides in addressing these cybercrimes through enforcement and recovery efforts. Approximately ₹39.3 crore was successfully recovered, representing around 13% of the total financial losses reported.

Crimes against women

The report shows a rise in crimes against women, with 2,482 cases registered in 2024 compared to 2,424 in 2023.A total of 1,201 cases were reported during the year by She Teams. Out of these, 2,280 individuals were caught red-handed and 425 petty cases were addressed. Legal action was taken in 182 cases, resulting in FIRs being filed, while 1,957 individuals were warned and counselled. Additionally, 2,519 adult offenders and 106 minors were identified. Efforts to combat these issues include expanded SHE Teams, Safe City initiatives, and helpline support. Enhanced CCTV coverage and increased patrolling are also planned for 2025 to ensure women’s safety.

Drugs seized

The H-NEW seized drugs worth ₹10.56 crore in 29 cases, including 2,668 kg of ganja and significant quantities of cocaine and MDMA in 2024. With key arrests targeting drug networks, H-NEW has strengthened its resolve to tackle narcotics distribution effectively.

Strategic plans

To address the rising challenges, the Hyderabad City Police plans to implement AI-driven policing, predictive systems to pre-empt crime and optimize law enforcement, AI-driven traffic systems and targeted safety initiatives and strengthened expertise to combat digital crimes effectively. “These measures aim to transform Hyderabad into a safer and more secure city while addressing the complexities of urban crime and safety,” concluded the top cop.

Jealous Man Steals Rs 1.2 Crore From Elder Brother's House In Hyderabad

 

A man and his gang of 11 men were arrested by the Hyderabad city police on Sunday, December 22, for dacoity and robbing gold worth Rs 1.2 crore from a gold merchant’s house in Hyderabad’s Domalguda region. The arrests were made based on a complaint lodged by Ranjeet Ghorai, a native of West Bengal, who works as a gold merchant in the city.

The police recovered gold ornaments weighing 1.228 kg, silver ornaments weighing 616 grams brass weighing 2kg, Rs 2 lakh 90 thousand cash, one watch, a car, 13 mobile phones, and weapons including a lighter gun, a broad curve axe, 2 medium size axes, 2 knives, 6 big sickles from the arrested.

Arrested gang

The arrested are identified as Indrajit Ghorai, 43, brother of the complainant Ranjeet, who is the main accused and the mastermind behind the dacoity. the other accused include Altaf Mohammed Khan, 23, Syed Irfan Ahmed, 44, Mohammed Noor Ullah, 40, Habeeb Hussain, 35, Shaik Shabbir, 46, Mohd Arbaaz, 25, Shoaib Khan, 22, Gulam Maqdum, 29, Shaik Osman, 24, Shaik Allauddin, 29, all residents of Hyderabad.

Three accused in the case, identified as Shahabaaz, Nazeerand and Zaheer remain at large, and police efforts to arrest them are underway.

Planning dacoity in Hyderabad

According to the police, the complainant Ranjeet Ghorai and the main accused Indrajit Ghorai moved to Hyderabad a few years ago and have been doing gold business. While Ranjeet became prosperous with his business, Indrajit suffered losses and was in financial distress. This led to Indrajit growing a grudge and deciding to rob his brother, Ranjit, said the police in a statement.

Upon deciding to rob gold from his brother, Indrajit consulted his friends and associates in Hyderabad, Altaf Mohammed Khan and Syed Irfan Ahmed, who brought in more associates to conduct the dacoity.

Syed Irfan Ahmed brought in Habeeb Hussain, and even an advocate Norr Ullah for conspiring the crime without being caught.While the advocate agreed to provide legal advice, Syed Irfan Khan brought in a real estate agent in the city, Shaik Shabbir, who brought in Mohammed Arbaz, a man with a criminal record, and his associates Shoaib Khan, Gulam Maqdum, Shaik Osman, Shaik Allauddin, Shahabaaz, Nazeer, and Zaheer too joined the dacoity gang.

They sourced weapons and a car for the transit during the crime, days ahead and got the number plates removed not to get detected by the police cameras.

Executing robbery

During the night hours of December 12, the team headed by Arbaz and his henchmen left for Ranjit Ghorai’s residence, while Habeeb Hussain drove the car and Altaf waited near Aramghar Flyover to collect the stolen objects after the decoity. Upon reaching Ranjit’s residence, the armed assailants headed by Arbaz were helped by Inidrajit to break in. The gang held Ranjit and his family hostage, threatened violently and caused injuries, and robbed the gold and other valuables stored in the house, before fleeing the scene in the car.

Nabbed in 10 days

Domalguda Police, upon receiving the complaint from Ranjit, started the investigation by forming special teams, and on Sunday, 22 December, the Domalguda police, with the help of the commissioner’s task force arrested 12 accused and recovered the valuables. The total value of the recovered items was estimated at Rs 1.2 crore.

Transgenders to Begin Traffic Assistant Duties in Hyderabad from Tomorrow

 39 transgender individuals appointed as Traffic Assistants in Hyderabad will officially commence their duties tomorrow. This progressive step aims to integrate the transgender community into mainstream professions and enhance inclusivity in public services. The announcement came following a demonstration program at the Integrated Command Control Center (ICCC) on Sunday, where the newly inducted Traffic Assistants showcased their training in the presence of Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand.

The Traffic Assistants will be deployed at various junctions across the city, assisting in managing vehicular movement, ensuring road safety, and addressing traffic issues. Their inclusion in the workforce marks a significant milestone in promoting equality and providing opportunities to marginalized communities. Commissioner C.V. Anand expressed his appreciation for the dedication shown by the transgender recruits. "This initiative reflects our commitment to building an inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to contribute and excel," he stated.

 The program has garnered widespread praise, with citizens and activists applauding the Hyderabad Police for taking a bold step toward inclusivity. The transgender Traffic Assistants have undergone rigorous training to equip them for their roles, and their involvement is expected to bring positive changes to traffic management in the city. The deployment of transgender Traffic Assistants is a first for Hyderabad and sets a precedent for other cities to follow. It underscores the city’s progressive approach to equality and diversity, paving the way for greater acceptance and integration of marginalized communities.

Hyderabad CP and health secretary visits KIMS hospital

  

Today, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Sri C. V. Anand IPS and Telangana Government Health Secretary Dr. Christina IAS visited KIMS Hospital on behalf of the Telangana Government to inquire about the health condition of 9-year-old boy Sri Teja, who was injured in a stampede at Sandhya Theatre two weeks ago. Speaking on the occasion, CP Anand  said that Sri Teja's brain was impacted  due to lack of breathing during the stampede and that it will take a long time to recover. He said that the doctors have informed him that he is being treated with ventilator support and that the treatment is likely to be prolonged. He said that the doctors will also release a medical bulletin on Sri Teja's health soon. Similarly, Health Secretary Dr. Christina said that we are monitoring the health condition of Shri Teja regularly and hope for his speedy recovery. The hospital medical team, Shri. Akshansh Yadav, IPS DCP Central Zone and other officials were present.

Hyderabad CP visits school in Musheerabad, interacts with students

  The Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri A. Revanth Reddy has ordered officials and political leaders to visit the hostels to resolve the problems faced by the Telangana Government in Gurukuls. As part of this, today, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sri C. V. Anand IPS Hyderabad visited the Telangana Minorities Residential Girls School Musheerabad, Bagh Lingampally). He inquired about the problems of the students there and the facilities available to them. He discussed with the principal about the breakfast, lunch snacks and dinner being provided to the students and inquired about the type of diet being provided to the students.

 Smt. K. Vanishree Principal and Dr. K. Challa Devi, Deputy Director, Social Welfare Department, showed the kitchen, sanitary area , science lab, computer lab, robotic lab, sports room, dormitories of the students ,to the Police Commissioner. The Police Commissioner Anand inquired about the teaching method of the school and thoroughly inspected all the floors in the Gurukul school and inquired about the facilities available there. On this occasion, Sri CV Anand, IPS CP Hyderabad, speaking to the students, encouraged the students to take a healthy diet every day and participate in extracurricular activities like sports, which helps in building a healthy personality. This helps in facing the challenges that come in life and dealing with the thoughts of different people. He said that the facilities and amenities provided by the Telangana government to the students of this institution (education, food, sports, infrastructure etc.) are commendable and arrangements have been made to make all social and minority welfare hostels and schools more nutritious and provide beauty products with a budget of Rs 500 crore.

 I congratulate the students for some of you clearing national level entrance exams like NEET. He said that it is because of the hard work of the teachers of this educational institution that the students have achieved such great achievements. The students of these institutions should also try for the civil services exams. "Stay healthy, stay safe, study hard and fulfill the wishes of your parents and teachers and live up to their hopes." he urged.

City Police destroy narcotics worth Rs 7.48 crore

 

The Hyderabad City Police, under the Drug Disposal Committee chaired by CCS DCP N. Swetha, destroyed contraband drugs worth ₹7.48 crore on Thursday. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V.Anand.

The destroyed substances include 2,140.395 kg of ganja, 12,669 ml of hash oil, 540 alprazolam tablets, 19.34 grams of cocaine, four LSD blots, 177.75 grams of MDMA, and 70 grams of opium. The contraband, related to 208 NDPS cases registered between 2019 and 2024 across 36 police stations in Hyderabad, was disposed of through G.J. Multiclave (India) Pvt. Ltd., a biomedical waste management facility in Ranga Reddy district. Previously, drugs worth ₹3.08 crore linked to 118 cases were destroyed on June 19, 2024.

Hyderabad Police chief highlights urgent need to clear encroachments and parking obstructions

 Approximately 88 lakh vehicles are currently operating in Hyderabad, with an additional 1,500 vehicles being registered daily, said Hyderabad police chief C.V. Anand during a coordination meeting held on Wednesday on Operation ROPE (Removal of Obstructive Parking and Encroachments).

The meeting, held at the old commissioner of police office in Purani Haveli, Chatta Bazar, had MLAs, corporators, civic officials and police officers from the South, South East, and South West Zones of the Hyderabad Commissionerate to discuss solutions for traffic congestion caused by illegal parking and encroachments.

Commissioner Anand attended the meeting as the chief guest and outlined the challenges faced by the city due to the rapid increase in vehicle numbers. He emphasised the need to remove encroachments on footpaths and carriageways, which are often occupied by pushcarts, vendors and establishments, resulting in significant traffic disruptions.

The Commissioner urged MLAs and other public representatives to cooperate in addressing these issues to improve road safety and ease traffic flow in Hyderabad.

The meeting was attended by MLAs, including Akbaruddin Owaisi (Chandrayangutta), Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala (Malakpet), Mohd Majeed Hussain (Nampally), Kausar Mohiuddin (Karwan), Mir Zulfeqar Ali (Charminar), Jaffar Hussain (Yakutpura) and Mohammed Mubeen (Bahadurpura) along with concerned Corporators. Senior officials from the Hyderabad Traffic Police and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), including Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) P. Vishwa Prasad, DCP Traffic-III R. Venkateswarlu, DCP South Zone Sneha Mehra, DCP South East Zone Patil Kantilal Subhash and Charminar Zonal Commissioner T. Venkanna also participated in the programme.

44 Transgender candidates recruited by Hyderabad Police as Traffic Assistants

 A special recruitment drive of transgender persons for Traffic Assistants was conducted at Goshamahal Police Grounds on Wednesday. To promote inclusivity and give formal recognition to the transgender community, Chief Minister of Telangana A. Revanth Reddy has initiated the recruitment of transgenders as Traffic Assistants in the Hyderabad Traffic Police department. Orders for this step were issued following consultations led by Anitha Ramachandran from the Women and Child Welfare Department, Ravi Gupta, Principal Secretary, Home department, and C.V. Anand, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad.

Out of the 58 candidates who participated in the recruitment process, 44 were selected, comprising 29 transgender women and 15 transgender men. Addressing the newly recruited Traffic Assistants, Police Commissioner C.V. Anand encouraged them to serve as role models for their community and contribute to the reputation of the Hyderabad Police and Telangana State Police department.

The drive was conducted under the supervision of a committee comprising DCP South West, Home Guard Commandant and Additional DCP CAR, along with officials from the Welfare department.

The event was open to transgender individuals meeting specific eligibility criteria. Candidates were required to be Indian citizens aged 18-40, with a minimum educational qualification of SSC (10th standard) and a personal identity card issued by the District Magistrate. Local residency within the Hyderabad Commissionerate’s jurisdiction was mandatory. Physical tests included 800-meter running, long jump and shot-put, with height requirements of 165 cm for transgender women.
